In Case You Were Wondering...

In the past two weeks, I have:
watched my brother get married
dyed my hair bright blonde
watched the first 3 seasons of gilmore girls
started watching dexter
gotten a shot in my hiney for a sinus infection
taken awful cough medicine
not had much relief from sinus infection
packed my bags for a ten day+ okc stay
driven to edmond, ok
hopped in a yukon with "unbound"
traveled to tulsa
loved on my kiddos from my former internship
seen "unbound" perform... a lot
celebrated kyle's 21st birthday
driven back to okc
driven to talequah, ok
taken ridiculously cute/funny pictures of tim and other unbound-ers
dyed part of my hair black
settled in at oklahoma christian as a camp counselor
met and loved on a group of 20 kiddos (yeah, group 19!)
seen my favorite past campers
thrown up more than I care to mention
left Zenith to "recover"
been sleeping on a couch  living off of plain bagels and popsicles (bc it's all I can keep down)
realized that health and friendship are two blessings that I should never take for granted

Fingers crossed- I will be healthy soon and able to post regularly. Or at least go a day without vomiting. Those are admirable goals, I'd say.

Friday

I really should consider washing my face before bed regularly. The past few mornings I have woken up looking like a member of KISS. And while the idea of being an over-the-top performer would be a dream come true, I'd prefer to do it without circles under my eyes and a front man whose tongue is longer than any tongue should be.
Speaking of dream professions, Sawyer has decided to become a journalist. Or maybe just a blogger. It seems that every time I sit down to type, he's right there in my lap with his paws on my keyboard. Now I'm sure that you're thinking about how precious that is (and don't get me wrong, it is precious), but attempting to form legible sentences when his lil' paws slide in an occasional "fdslkfj sfisadslfkgjs9324;:'df" is somewhat difficult. He also loves to rest his snout on my track pad. In fact, he's actually opened random ad pages. He seems to favor the slightly awkward male enhancement ones. Do you think he knows I'm having him fixed soon and is subtly trying to protest?
I feel like there are a good number of things that have happened since my last post.

i.e. David and Meagan got married!
Their wedding was PERFECT...
Kristi's boo was a groomsman/dj, so I technically had two dates.
Date #1
Date #2
Please look out how determined Laura (center, gold dress) is.
She wanted that bouquet. For fear of our limbs, we let her have it.
Yay for marriage!

One thing I have always been thankful for? Musically talented friends. The night after Meagan and David's wedding, about thirty folks gathered for a "House Warming" concert. It was definitely warm, but the music and company made it well worth it.

My trip ended a bit earlier than I had intended due to an obscure relative's death. That last sentence seems insensitive, considering the "relative" was technically my great-grandfather, but I had never met the man and up until about two years ago, I was completely unaware of his existence.

And, because it is, in fact, Friday:

The It's Friday, I'm In Love Series<
1. Gilmore Girls
How I managed to go this long without watching this show is beyond me. I love it. Thanks to Kristi's roomate, I have every season available for my viewing and plan on taking full advantage of it. I'm on season 2.  (it's only been four days :/)

2.  This picture:
Glasses glare and all- I love everything about this.
Can you tell I'm completely smitten?

3. The Allen House
The past few afternoons have been spent curled up on my dear friend Sarah's couch watching TV. With our toes snuggled up under quilts, we talk about everything and anything, nap occasionally, and  simply enjoy doing nothing together. The combination of that couch, amazing pillows, and trashy shows is sheer perfection.

Well, my precious 18 subscribers and the few mysterious blog lurkers, it's time for Sawyer's first Vet appointment. I have no apologies for the ridiculously long post. I can almost guarantee another one sometime soon detailing my old roomate's bachelorette party and wedding this weekend.

Peace and love until then.

Friday, I'm in love...

The It's Friday, I'm In Love Series<

Here are a few of the things that make my heart go *boom* this morning:

Weddings
What could be better than matching dresses, ties, and flowers thrown together for the sake of love?
Nothing... except for maybe cake. But wait! There will be cake, too.
Yeah- weddings are the bomb.com.
(yes, I just used the phrase "bomb.com" judge)

Mucinex
I promise you, Satan may very well be living in my sinus cavity. At least, that's what it feels like.
The past week has been wonderful, but I owe every wonderful moment to Mucinex.
Thank the Lawd for modern medicine.
I'm so stinkin' tired of all the hacking and gagging. Gross.
(Luckily, I have an amazing bf who is always there, glass of water in hand, after a coughing fit)
I guarantee it would be 1000x worse without this wonder drug in my system.

Sun Dresses
I usually dread summer in Texas because of the heat... and the fact that shorts and I don't get along all that well.
However, I have recently invested in a small collection of sundresses and *bam* problem solved.
I stay cool, bare the best part of my legs, and manage to look super cute without much effort.

Carly Conklin
Carly is my sister. My soulmate. My best friend. My person.
However, we live in separate states and have, what seems like, conflicting schedules.
I got to see this lovely lady last night and I propose to you that her hugs are healing.
Bless. It's as if all of my stress from the past few weeks melted away in her embrace last night.
Even better? She is the kind of person that makes you feel genuinely appreciated and wanted.
Who wouldn't love her?

What are you *in love* with this week?

Jun 3, 2010

I can tell it's gonna be a good day...

Please tell me you've heard of Priscilla Ahn. If you haven't, pretty please for your own sake, get on iTunes and buy her album, "A Good Day." It. Is. FANTASTIC.

I say that mainly because her song, "A Good Day (Morning Song)" has been in my head since I woke up. And appropriately so, it has been such a good day.

There's nothing like waking up feeling completely ready to conquer whatever life throws at you. Sawyer slept way past his typical time (5am! Bah!) and I was more than thankful. We still managed to get up and out of bed by about 8:30. If you know me at all, you can appreciate the significance of me being awake before noon during the summer.

Since I was WIDE awake and feeling pretty fantastic, I decided to take the dogs for a little jog. This was the second time I've taken them at the same time. At first the idea terrified me. Trying to keep up with both of them and not lose a dog in the process = seemingly impossible. However, on a whim, I took them both last night and they did SUCH a good job. They did even better this morning with a quicker pace.
I love that it they're looking at each other. Layla HATED Sawyer at first. My guess is that they'll be inseparable by the time I get home on Tuesday.

That's right- Tuesday. I am leaving for Oklahoma City this afternoon and staying for five days. My main purpose is to attend my dear friends Meagan and David's wedding tomorrow night, but I decided to make the most of it and stay until Tuesday- soaking up time with Tim and my other rockin' friends up there.

Side note: If you are in OKC, I would LOVE to see you. :D

I'll post pictures from the "date" I went on with my nephew earlier in the week eventually. It was a blast. That kid is precious and I love spending time with him.

For now, I'm off to the merry, old land of OZ, Oklahoma.

Happy Thursday,

Choose Joy

When I was in high school, I started a "Things That Make Me Smile" list. It was scribed in a tiny, turquoise journal and believe it or not, I got to over 1000 things.

It's kind of funny. I always assumed that by the end of my college career, I'd (obviously) be older and wiser. However, I think in times like these, when unemployment and uncertainty so easily bring me down, I could take a lesson or two from my high school self and take some time to simply remember the little blessings in life.

Here are the little gifts that have me smiling this morning:

*Having the dog I rescued two summers ago at my feet and my newest love, Sawyer on my chest- both asleep.

*The leftover coffee my parents shared with me at 6am when I had to let the pups out.

*"Saved By The Bell" reruns on TBS. (Someone please remind me why in the world I was in love with Zach Morris? That hair is ridiculous!)

*A warm bed in an air conditioned house.

*The ability to afford the three different medications I'm on right now that are fighting my ridiculous sinus infection/cough from you know where.

*Thinking about Meagan and David's wedding this weekend.

*Waking up to a sweet voicemail from my love, who doesn't hold it against me when I say, "Yeah- call me when you're done. I'll be awake." and then fall asleep three minutes later.

*Having this wallpaper from the (in)courage site that not only helps me remember what day it is, but also reminds me of my purpose each day.

*Being able to talk to my parents several times a day and having my mom at arms reach to scratch my head when I get stressed.

*Phone chats with my hilarious and talented friend, Kim, in Houston.

*Frequent lunch dates, room organizing, guitar playing, and conversations with Miss Sarah Ann.

*The constant reminder that I am surrounded (physically and figuratively) by amazing people who love me.

I could go on and on, but the point is that there are way too many things to be thankful for this morning. Each day I have a choice- joy or fear.

Today, I choose joy.
